I’m disappointed when I find business websites that are not search engine friendly when it comes to title tags. This is simply poor planning by the website designer. Here is a basic content checklist to follow before you start to build a web site for your business:

First: Create a list of all your products and services
Second: Write at least one paragraph, four to five sentences, that describe each product and service
Third: Don’t write for search engines! Simply write for your potential customer
Four: Consider building a list of frequently asked questions that you regularly receive from your customers

It is very important to create a clear summary of your products and services before you hire a company to build a website for your business. Many web site development projects become stalled due to lack of written copy. This means the launch of your new website, an important marketing tool for your business, is delayed.

The name of each page on your web site should be clearly defined. For example, if you provide residential window cleaning services in Gulf Breeze, Fl, a page on your website can be titled: Home Window Cleaning Services for Gulf Breeze, Fl. The aforementioned page clearly notifies search engines and your potential clients exactly what service you provide to the area of Gulf Breeze, Florida. This is an example of a clear title tag.

The bottom line for Search Engine Optimization: Google and other search engines want good content. Search engines can only be effective when they serve up the right content for a particular search query. Make sure your title tag reflects what you are trying deliver for the search engine user.
